Glossary

The glossary below contains many of the terms you will find in common use throughout the Symantec Security Response website. Please refer to this list to find definitions of terms and answers to other Internet security-related questions.

resource

Data files and databases, such as Windows shares and Microsoft SQL databases, that can be selected for backup.

In Backup Exec, data files and databases, such as Windows shares and Microsoft SQL databases, that can be selected for backing up.

A Novell NetWare term that refers to a data set on the target. For example, in DOS, resources are drives, directories, and files.

Any item that Notification Server can track or manage, such as a user, site, installed application, computer, switch, router, or handheld device.

Any of the individual components that work together to provide services on a network. A resource may be a physical component such as a storage array or a switch, a software component such as Oracle8i or a Web server, or a configuration component such as an IP address or mounted file system.
